What is an SEO Glossary and why should you care?
A good SEO glossary should be like one of those ‘rough guides’ that travellers buy at airports when jetting off to foreign climes. But instead of travelling to a new world you’re diving into the world of SEO. Don’t worry, we’re going to leave the whole travel analogy there!
The purpose of an SEO glossary is to bring sense to the madness of the world of search engine optimisation. The use of technical terms and acronyms is unavoidable, mostly due to the often complex technical nature of this branch of digital marketing.
When researching SEO we will always butt up against words and phrases we don’t understand. This doesn’t just happen to beginners, even the most seasoned and experienced SEO Geek will often stumble across terminology that is brand new to them.
Sometimes SEO terms appear unfamiliar because they are not the words we might associate with the explanations behind them. Because the world of SEO is still comparatively new it’s not uncommon for two people working in SEO to call a single thing by many different names. As you meander through the Yeseo SEO Glossary you’ll notice that at the top of a lot of the pages you’ll see a second heading starting with the words ‘Also known as’. We write these headings when we know that one glossary term is known by another name.
We have written this SEO Glossary to be as useful to professionals as it is to people just getting started with SEO. For those in the know it might be able to act as a sort of field manual, or ‘aide-memoir’. For beginners, we would like this SEO glossary to be viewed as a friendly guide written in plain English.
The world of SEO is vast, and it’s only going to get bigger, and that is a bit part of why we have created this resource. Clarity of language is very important to us here at Yeseo, so building this glossary fits neatly into our ethos.
