How long does it take a new website to get backlinks? Well, it depends how much effort you put in. If you’re writing really good content, then people still need to find it, and like it, and want to link to it. So a little bit of outreach doesn’t do any harm. If you can afford it, hire someone to do PR. Spread the word!
Attracting backlinks on a new website
When you launch a new website, you might be itching to start building backlinks, but there’s a lot to be said for doing this as naturally as possible. For one thing, Google understands that a brand-new website isn’t going to attract thousands of incredibly high-quality backlinks a few days after launching. It just looks too suspicious unless you are a major brand.
So, what can you do to try and speed up the process of gaining backlinks? Start by registering your website with legitimate online directories like Yell.com. The links from these websites won’t directly help your rankings in a big way, but it does show Google that you are now in existence, and that’s a start.
Another good idea for building backlinks is to publish a press release about almost anything; it could even be about your new website. There are many news sources around the world that will happily publish almost anything.
To put out a press release is great, but you need to remember that if you publish a terrible press release, it’s going to exist on the Internet for a very long time. So, write something, but write something good. This advice also goes for your website, but I’m hoping that you know that.
Sometimes the most old-fashioned tactics in SEO work the best. If you’ve got a brand-new website, then why not email your friends and ask them for a link?
Another traditional, but still very valid, SEO technique is to offer to write guest posts on niche-relevant and peer websites. This doesn’t have to be done in an unnatural way.
You may be a member of your local Chamber of Commerce or affiliated with a professional organization connected to your business. These are the perfect places to start when offering your services as a blog post writer.
The link that you will get from your article to your website will naturally be very authoritative in the eyes of Google, and that means it’s going to be really useful for kickstarting the rankings of your website.
Sticking with the topic of old-fashioned SEO, we all have different amounts of resources available to us, so these are some very quick ways to start building backlinks to your website.

If you have a bit more resources, I very much recommend building web pages that will serve as the absolute best resource on the topic connected to your business. Some people call them skyscrapers or pillar pages, and whilst they’re a lot of work, they can continue to pay off for many years.
Here at Yeseo, we have written pillar pages that still earn links from authoritative websites, quoting them as sources many years after we originally wrote the article.
If your website is brand-new and you need to get the ball rolling, remember that well-written, helpful comments in the comment sections on influential blogs is still a good way of getting your name out there.
Almost always, the links you get from the comment section will be no-follow links, so they won’t actually help you rank directly, but they will get your name and reputation building off to a good start.
Finally, don’t forget the importance of a good internal link scheme on your website. Spending time on this can help Google understand better the relationship between your pieces of content, as much as backlinks can.
